The President of the Bosnian Serb republic (Republika Srpska), Milan Jelic, has died of a heart attack, doctors and politicians say.
“This is a sad day for Republika Srpska,” the entity’s prime minister, Milorad Dodik, told local TV.
Mr Jelic, 51, died after admission to hospital in Doboj on Sunday evening.

A man who agreed to plead guilty to trying to extort more than $1m (490,000) from Tom Cruise has been found dead at his Arizona home.
David Hans Schmidt, of Phoenix, committed suicide, investigators said.
The 47-year-old faced up to two years in jail for attempted extortion in a case involving stolen photos of the actor’s wedding to Katie Holmes.

Germany edged out Brazil in a gripping match to become the first team to retain the Women’s World Cup.
Brazil’s Daniela crashed a fine 20-yard volley against the post early on.

Egypt has allowed 85 Palestinians to return to Gaza after being stranded for more than three months.
Most are Hamas supporters and MPs. The militant group said it had reached a deal with Egypt on their return.
They returned via the Rafah crossing point, which Egypt closed when Hamas seized control of Gaza in mid-June - stranding thousands of Palestinians.

An attack on an African Union army base in the Sudanese region of Darfur has reportedly killed 12 peacekeepers.
The casualties were the most serious losses suffered by the AU mission since it arrived in 2003, a spokesman said.
